On Sunday, July 26, several of the Underwoods of Connecticut gathered at David and Julia's lakehouse in Lebanon, CT. All attending enjoyed a wonderful barbecue as well as a scenic walk to the beach. Amazingly, the thunderstorms that were predicted for the afternoon held off despite looming clouds on the horizon and an occasional distant rumble.

Vermont House Makes Slow Progress PDF Print E-mail

VermontOur family owns 52 acres of heavily forested land in Vermont. The land was purchased well over 20 years ago, and around 14 years ago, we moved a camper onto the site. Since then, a septic system has been installed, a foundation poured, and a shell built for a small house. Hopefully by the end of this summer it will at least be a livable space to get away to. The house is located on the side of a mountain near Hill Road in Brookline, and overlooks a small brook. The house is modest in size, designed as a rustic place to stay to get away. It is not meant to be a permanent living space, but rather is intended for weekend getaways, or short vacations. Currently the site has no electricity or running water, though the house is wired and plumbing is installed.

Several Plainville Girl Scouts and family members took part in a yearly tradition of white water river rafting on Mother’s Day. The participants took on a 10-mile class 1 and 2 rafting trip on the Fife Brook section of the Deerfield River in Massachusetts. During the tour some were daring enough to jump in and swim in the calm section. There was even the opportunity for the rafters to become engaged in water bucket fights with other rafters. All in all it was a great adventure for everyone, participants said.

Susan Underwood (second row, right) is the Girl Scout leader for troop 60478 and Laurel is a Senior Girl Scout in Troop 60478. The troop took the rafting trip under the direction of the Crab Apple Whitewater trips.
